Children's Privacy & Safety
At WonderYarn, we want story time to feel personal, imaginative, and safe for families.
This page is a plain-language overview of how we think about children's privacy, family control, and content safety. For the full legal details, please read our Privacy Policy.
Built for families
WonderYarn is designed to be used by parents, guardians, and families. We ask that a parent or guardian create accounts, enter information, and manage how WonderYarn is used.
We only ask for a small amount of information to help create personalized stories, such as a child's first name, age, gender selection, and interests. Parents can optionally add a birthday month and day (no birth year) to a child's reading profile so WonderYarn can keep their age up to date. We encourage families not to enter sensitive personal information into story prompts or profile fields.
What information we use for stories
When you create a story, WonderYarn may use information like:
- your child's first name
- age
- gender selection
- selected interests
We use that information to help create a story that feels more personal and age-appropriate.
WonderYarn also offers optional voice profiles for personalized story narration. Voice profiles are always created by a parent or guardian, never by children directly. Voice recordings are used only for narrating stories within WonderYarn, are never used to train AI models, and are not shared with third parties. You can delete a voice profile at any time, which permanently removes both the recording and any narrations generated from it.
A note about story links
Generated stories are currently accessible by URL. That means anyone who has the link may be able to view the story.
Because of that, we recommend avoiding sensitive personal details in story inputs. If you want a story to feel personal, using interests and age is usually enough without adding anything private.
What parents can control
Parents and guardians can contact us to:
- ask questions about privacy
- request deletion of account or story-related data
- report a concern about a child's information
- ask for help reviewing what information may be associated with an account
At this time, deletion requests are handled manually. To make a request, email privacy@wonderyarn.com. When we process a deletion request, a WonderYarn administrator removes the child profile record and unlinks any saved stories or reading journeys from that profile. Previously generated story pages are preserved (so siblings or cousins sharing an account are not affected), but can be deleted on request. A tamper-resistant audit log records each deletion. Because our databases are backed up, copies of deleted rows may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being permanently removed.
Analytics and tracking
WonderYarn does not use personalized advertising or behavior-based ad targeting.
We use analytics tools, including Google Analytics, to understand site performance and usage so we can improve WonderYarn and keep it working well. These tools may collect technical information such as pages viewed, session activity, and diagnostic data.
Safety and content
WonderYarn is designed to create child-friendly stories based on the information families provide. Our goal is to support stories that feel imaginative, age-appropriate, and enjoyable for family reading and listening.
No automated system is perfect, so parents and guardians should always review content the way they would review any new book, app, or media experience for a child.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to help protect the information we collect. No online system can promise absolute security, but protecting family information is important to us.
